On page 79 the author says “here you are, trying to say something that will hold up, and we want you tell readers all the negative things someone might say against you?” I feel like this is very important when arguing. Not only presenting your point but also including others point of view to “enhance your credibility” (page 79). There are many different ways of thinking about the same topic. And everyone’s ways are not necessarily wrong. One may support another while agreeing and even disagreeing. On page 80 the author states that “conversely, if you don’t entertain counterarguments, you may very likely come across as closed-minded, as if you think your beliefs are beyond dispute”. This supports what the author mentioned on page 79. I think its important to open the thinking cap for your readers. One may only think in one certain way. But when they encounter a reading that includes many other ways of thinking of the same topic. It opens up a door for them that they can use anywhere. For example I myself experience this because I was used to only thinking one certain way. When I see certain topics that interest me wether its In a book or on facebook. I know my thinking and sometimes think its the only way to think. But now I like to read the comments and be amazed at how so many people can have a different way of thinking of the same topic and still support each others claims. On page 88 the author states that “often the best way to overcome a objection is not to try to refute it completely but to agree with part it while challenging only the part you dispute”. She/he continues to say that it is a way to say “yes, but” or “yes and no”. Agreeing to disagree. Or even if we don’t agree providing details on why we could.
