My draft was reviewed by Dan, Chloe and Maddison. My peers provided me with ideas that I probably would not of thought of by myself. When reviewing my paper most of the comments I received were on how to better my grammar. Sentence structure. And punctuation. Even after going over my essay by myself over a hundred times there were still missing commas, periods and even words. Having my peers review my work with constructive criticism really got me excited because it was not just me writing on my own and getting feedback after being graded. But a chance to make it better. Although in a way it was, but the process, from drafting on my own to my peers basically putting in their ideas into my story sort of overwhelmed me because I am not used to that type of “draft”.
I wish that we could talk about my thesis, I completely forgot until I was revising my draft.
Reading my peers drafts I can say that the most important feedback that I gave had to do with the story telling and not just the grammar issues, for example two out of the three papers that I read would of been perfect to me if there were more imagery and just the little details that counts.
Reviewing our drafts in person together had to be the best experience I have had. We got a chance to bring our marginal notes to life. One or two of the comments I received I did not fully understand until my peer went into more details on explaining it. And I loved how this process was not about judging ones writing but instead helping to make it better.
One of my favorite moments was when Dan, Maddison and myself were sharing our ideas towards Chloes paper and I mentioned something about her choosing one specific meal and adding more details because I felt her story was more about her favorite day instead of her favorite meal. And prior to my comment Dan complimented her on not only mentioning one meal. But when he heard my comment his words were “ ahh I didn’t think of it that way ”. I think that was the whole point of this, to get ideas we probably weren’t thinking of.
